Remote Learning to Begin on October 26

Dear AXL Families,

Last night AXL Academy's Board of Directors voted to move AXL into full remote learning starting on Monday, October 26 for all scholars. Aurora Public Schools' Board voted last night to move the district into remote learning for their schools in response to the county data. After the district Board meeting, our Board reviewed the cases in Arapahoe County and decided for the safety of our scholars and staff, our school should mirror the district and move into remote learning. This decision was not made in response to cases within AXL Academy. If AXL Academy had a positive case, this would trigger a quarantine of a cohort. There have been no cohorts requiring a quarantine at AXL Academy nor positive cases as of today.

The Board of Directors will be meeting every two weeks to review the county data and make a decision if the learning style should change. While the district has announced a return date of November 20, due to the autonomy of AXL's Board, the Board can vote to return to in-person before or after the district.

Our Board of Directors is made up of parents, community members and a teacher representative. Board meetings are open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

The Board and AXL Academy leadership understands this is a quick change for our families. We are thankful for your continued partnership to deliver expeditionary learning so all may be engaged, empowered and achieve.

Social Emotional Supports for Students Social-emotional learning will be a key component of remote learning. In addition, all students will continue to have remote access to mental health resources including APS psychologists, social workers, counselors and other school staff. The health and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. Click here for more information on APS mental health resources and supports.

School-Time Remote Learning Childcare We have partnered with organizations throughout our community to offer school-time childcare. Our plan is to continue offering care for students at the current offsite locations (Colorado Community Church, Dayton Opportunity Center, and Salvation Army) and to temporarily provide care at seven school locations until four City of Aurora Parks and Recreation Centers open in the near future. Students will be supervised by professional childcare staff while they are at the remote learning centers.
